This is an appeal from an order of the circuit court for Racine county, Judge Wayne J. Marik, committing S.B. for six months. This court took jurisdiction of the appeal upon certification by the court of appeals. Secs. 808.05(2), 809.61, Stats. 1985-86. The sole issue on appeal is whether an attorney may withdraw a demand for a jury trial in a civil commitment proceeding without the consent of the individual against whom the petition for commitment was filed. We hold that because the individual did not consent to her attorneys withdrawal of the jury demand, the commitment order entered after a bench trial is void, and we hereby vacate the order.
